Party Dozen – Mad Rooter
Sydney duo Party Dozen built “Mad Rooter” without a click track, allowing saxophonist Kirsty Tickle and percussionist Jonathan Boulet to pursue swagger over precision. The result lurches and struts with bluesy rock snarl before erupting into bursts of controlled confusion.
Boulet sampled a guitar with faulty electronics and missing strings, adding gritty texture that sounds half-broken by design.
Party Dozen formed in 2017 and has steadily built a reputation touring with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, and Amyl & the Sniffers. Their last album, “Crime in Australia,” hit number seven on the Australian charts in 2024. They’ve also worked with Nick Cave on a version of “Macabre” and collaborated with billy woods on his “Maps” album in 2023.
“Mad Rooter” anchors a double A-side 7″ out November 19 via City Slang, backed by a cover of Suicide’s “Ghost Rider.” It follows their improvisation-based approach while channelling some Jon Spencer Blues Explosion energy.
The duo toured Europe with Amyl & The Sniffers earlier this year, then hit US dates with Lambrini Girls. They’re back in the UK for six November shows running from London through Glasgow, with stops in Brighton, Leeds, Bristol, and Manchester.
